On a lark I watched the premiere of "No Ordinary Family." It's not horrible. I'd forgotten that Julie Benz was supposed to be part of it. She's somewhat miscast as a brilliant scientist. Michael Chiklis is somewhat miscast as her husband. But it's kind of an ill-fitting family (rather than a family of misfits) so it doesn't matter too much. Since if you've seen the promos the premise is obvious, I'll just say that it seems like it is going to be like "Heroes" without the pretentiousness and the overdrive publicity BS. This one seems to understand the limits of what it's working with a little more clearly and as the title implies it's definitely more suited to families than most of the stuff on TV these days. There is violence on the show but of the 1960's sort with most of the ugly stuff off screen, at least in the pilot. Looking around on the net this morning the show is supposed to be a drama. but it will definitely work better if it stays like the pilot, and keeps humor on the surface or just below it. It's not at all the farce the "Greatest American Hero" wanted to be, but it does have amusing moments. Not a must see show, but one families can watch together and enjoy.
