It's been a year since unfortunate circumstances led to Sirius Black, the Kitty Cat, coming to my home to stay.

Sirius is actually dark charcoal gray, which makes him look very shiny black in the sun. His eyebrows are sparse making him look like he's got different color eyebrows from the rest of him as you can see in the icon.

Cats usually like me, but Sirius really went out of his way to make friends when I first got him. He clearly spent time when he was a very small kitten with someone who needed the love of a pet very badly. Since his original home had several foster children, it's not hard to figure why.

He isn't coy at dinner time, like several cats I've known. He doesn't show up in the room and purposely look the other way as his bowl is filled to show how disinterested he is. No, when it's dinner time he lets me know and like a dog, trots ahead of me to his bowl to be sure I can find it.

Just now he meowed to get my attention. He wanted me to pet him while he ate some of his dry food. That's a new one. He made it pretty clear that's what he wanted. That's one of the possible benefits of living in the house with the old retired guy.

He's learned he's not supposed to be up on the table when I'm eating. He knows, he's not supposed to bat pens I'm working with, though pens are among his favorite things to play with. I hope he's learned that jabbing me with his claws isn't a good idea, but patting me with his paw is fine. Right now I'm in the process of teaching him that meowing to get into closed rooms will work (eventually), but scratching to get into closed rooms will get unwanted attention.

I've learned a few things, too. I know he's going to get up in the front window sill. It's smarter to keep a box under the window to help him up than have him scratch all the paint off the wall getting up. I've learned that kitty litter with baking soda is a godsend compared to that smelly litter box my sister dealt with.

Thank you, Sirius, I hope we have many more years together.

Oh, he's got kitty on his ears,
Kitty on his nose,
Kitty on his little tail,
And kitty on his toes!

He's got kitty on his back
And kitty in his hair
Kitty on his elbows
Kitty everywhere!

A very fine cat he seems to be! Love the kitty song, and love the image of Sirius wanting to be petted while he eats.

awww. I find that even though they're not environmentally responsible, the litter box liners are making changing the litter box almost....not icky, haha.

Happy kittyversary! Sirius seems to have found his preferred human, for sure. Welcome to the wonderful world of humans owned by cats..

I was thinking last night how much my three cats add to my life, and how nice it is to come home to these three critters, who are always happy to see me; especially when I get out the kitty treats, lol.
My Annie gets my attention by reaching out and patting me with her paw; I've learned it means, Hey! some petting is required here. :P

Sirius has a variety of attention getters, some of which are not very subtle like literally plopping in my lap or ramming his head into my arm.

We just had a little two act play while I was typing the above:
Act I
Scratchity scratch. I get up.
Me: No! Get away from there!
Sirius gives me an innocent look: I just want to go in...
Me: Get away from there!
Swish of the foot vaguely in his direction and Sirius trots away. I return to computer.

Act II (maybe a minute later)
Timid meow. I get up again
Me: Oh, do you want something?
Slightly more confident meow.
Me: Oh, you want to go in there? Good kitty.
Door opens. Cat zooms in. I return to computer.

I hope you & Sirius have many more years together too! It sounds like it's been good for both of you.

Lil has some odd habits too. When I'm getting ready to pour her dry food, she crouches to the side of the bowl--then just when I start to pour the food in, she jumps over the bowl! And she likes skritches before she starts eating too. Cat does not live by food alone....
