You know you're getting old when you can remember Andy Griffith before he was Sheriff Andy Taylor. If Matlock was before your time, you're still young.

The Andy Griffith show was before my time, but "Matlock" was that weird new show starring Sheriff Andy Taylor. I am caught in the interstices of 70's syndication again, I guess.

You see if you were old enough, you'd know that The Andy Griffith show was that weird show, where Jim Neighbors eventually became famous playing the kind of part that made Andy Griffith famous. ;o)

Andy Griffith started out in show business as the proto-type of Gomer Pyle. HIs movie No Time For Sergeants was the blue print for Gomer Pyle USMC. Honest!

See I remember Andy in A Face in the Crowd - possibly the best movie he has done. And sigh, I read the play No Time for Sergeants - hilarious play by the way. Movie is good too.

Is it wrong to say I preferred the Andy Griffiths Show to Matlock?
