Things I like when I cook for myself: Black-eyed peas, cornbread, oysters. Things I love at certain restaurants and hate at others: sushi, fish tacos, meat loaf, sweet potato fries, bread pudding.
something I don't trust any restaurant to do well: crabcakes (you should be able to see and taste actual crab).
I totally agree about liver. Never, nowhere, no time. Cured me of ordering things when I didn't know the language the menu was in, let me tell you.
Coffee tastes sublime at some places, but I'd never sleep again.

In this part of the country you have to figure the meat in crabcakes probably had fins instead of claws. ;o) But I do like the stuffing part of it.

We have blue crabs (http://animals.nationalgeographic.com/animals/invertebrates/blue-crab/) that we catch ourselves! The meat is much more delicate than the big crabs, but a lot of work to get out. We make crabcakes that are 1 pound of very fresh (swimming that morning) crabmeat to half a cup of bread crumbs, a little sherry, salt and pepper, and fried in butter and served hot (no peppers, onions, etc). I haven't been to a restaurant that can do that.
