I don't know how interested anyone is in my choices. But I like reading everyone else's.
Buffy
1. The first character you first fell in love with:
Buffy. She got less and less lovable as time went on. But, she was always my favorite character on the show.
2. The character you never expected to love as much as you do now:
Dawn. The more I think of it the more I dislike the whole arc of season 5. Much was done to jerk emotion out of the audience with a lot of classic soap opera "I can't tell so-and-so because they couldn't take it, Oops they found out the terrible secret on their own!" Probably Joss at his pandering worst. There are all kinds of reasons I don't like the Dawn story line, but I kept liking Dawn more and more as time went on.
3. The character everyone else loves that you don't:
Anya. I don't dislike her. But, she's sort of filler in my book. Not Emma's fault in the least.
4. The character you love that everyone else hates:
Spike. Obviously everyone doesn't hate him. But the guy is always the classic fish out of water. He never seems to fit in anywhere, but desperately wants to. He still wants to be his own person. If that doesn't describe most of my nerdy circle in high school I don't know what does.
5. The character you used to love but don't any longer.:
Xander. Joss and Marti done you wrong, son. Giles would be a close second. The more the show focused on female power rather than about unexpected strength in everyone, the less interesting and less likable all the men became. I think it's the reason Spike came off so badly in the story line.
Angel
1. The first character you first fell in love with:
Angel. I liked the guy as soon as he said the line "I'll be damned." In the first episode of Buffy.
2. The character you never expected to love as much as you do now:
Lindsay. Season five nearly ruined him, but the guy was marvelously ambiguous and principled in his 'me first last and forever' attitude.
3. The character everyone else loves that you don't:
Doyle. I saw the guy was a waste of space early on. By the fifth episode I was hoping against hope that he'd leave the show. I was, however, happy they gave the character a great way to leave instead of just dumping him.
4. The character you love that everyone else hates:
Don't know anyone everyone hates. Although many people did resent the fact Spike went to Angel. I think generally most people think it worked out all right.
5. The character you used to love but don't any longer.:
Cordelia. It took me a long time to like her. The Phantom Dennis episodes were very much her peak After that Joss's grand design made her more and more obnoxious again. I have to say that a better actress might have made something of evil Cordy. But given what I saw, I just can't stand Cordy any more.
Babylon5
1. The first character you first fell in love with:
Kosh. Great one word monologues that spoke volumes.
2. The character you never expected to love as much as you do now:
Sinclair. O'hare was a horribly bad actor, making the character of Sinclair more wierd than likable. It was rescued dramatically by a credible effort in season 4.
3. The character everyone else loves that you don't:
I don't know the fandom well enough to know who else likes whom, but Marcus Cole was a bit of a silly fop in my book.
4. The character you love that everyone else hates:
Again I don't know who everyone hates, but as foolish and amibitious as Londo was he was lovable.
5. The character you used to love but don't any longer.:
None.

Yeah, I can see that. Even though I put down Xander as the one I didn't expect to love, I can see how my view of Xander is bolstered a lot by the fannish mindset and the fanfic I read, and not really so much by the show itself. Same with Giles, because I still can't wrap my head around S7 Giles without major fanwanking of his motivations, and filling in the backstory of stuff we never got to see in England.
One of these days, maybe once my Stargate obsession dies down a little (yeah, right!) I'll check out B5 since so may of you guys enjoy it :)

I think some characters who were wooden or two-dimensional or written to suit the story line rather than their own potential ::cough::Connor::cough:: can be given greater justice in fan fic, because(, at least the good writers among the) fans have the time and luxury to explore who that character is or could have been without all the demands of a prime-time 45-minute television show to worry about.
