I went to the market today for some fruit. I got some Jonathan apples and Concord grapes. Both used to be ripe this time of year in my yard back in Missouri. I can only get Jonathans this time of year here. I haven't had Concord grapes in many years. These aren't quite as heavy skinned as the ones we used to have, and the juice is a little less strong than in those. But the flavor is just right. You only need a few for a very nice snack.

And I've never had scuppernongs! My Tennessee cousins used to call our Concords 'Fox grapes' which is the name of the broader family they are in. If you've ever had Welch's grape juice you've had Concord grape juice. The grapes are more tart and have a little more zip and depth to them. They don't make the best wine, though Concord grape wine certainly isn't uncommon (Magen David has one for instance). Their relatives, Catawaba grapes, produce really luscious juice and make very good wine.
