A storm blew through not long ago. I heard continuous rolling thunder over several minutes for the first time in a long time. Not at all severe here, but ten miles or so to the northwest:

The area is in a gap in the mountains between here and Wickenburg, AZ. The mountains behind the cactus are the White Tanks, due west of Phoenix.

Scary! I saw some horrible flooding scenes from out there, near Phoenix. Glad it wasn't too close. Hope it also missed our other friends out there!

The worst flooding was to the north of me, but much closer than that tornado. The moisture was heading north and when the clouds that hadn't produced rain yet passed up into the nearby mountains they just unloaded. The rain I got yesterday actually occurred after one of the rescues that was on the news, when the rain began to fill back into the Phoenix valley. The rescues that made the news occurred at washes which roads dip through that the locals know about. One of the women rescued stated that the water over the road was just deeper this time than she was used to and she misjudged it. Thankfully we didn't have mudslides with it like California did from the same system

The weather can be much different across Phoenix. I live in the northwest part of town. Cheryl (SoulfulSpike) lives in the north central part of town. Masq lives in the near southeastern part. If she hasn't moved, Plin lives in the middle of town. It's not at all unusual for a rain storm to miss two out of four of us. Masq's area usually gets the worst of the big dust storms and midsummer rains. Summer tends to be dry at my place and wetter than the rest of town in fall. So true to form, my area got the most rain, with the northern part of my suburb getting 1.5 of rain, probably 3 times what I got.

I'm glad it didn't cause problems for you, and always interesting how different the weather can be just a few miles away. The mudslides are really horrible--glad you didn't get them.
