What happens when a mediocre FBS (top college division) team plays a bad FCS (2nd college division) team? Missouri 79 Delaware State 0. It was the most points Mizzou ever scored against a college foe. Back in 1893 Missouri beat nearby Missouri Valley College 76-0. But the scoring system was less generous in those days so the 19th century game was perhaps more lop-sided than yesterday's. I can't say the earlier game was less competitive as a fact, because I have no account of it, and yesterday's Delaware St. game was shortened by 10 minutes (1/3 of the second half of the game) by mutual agreement of the two teams. (Delaware St. was having no luck stopping, or moving the ball against Missouri's bottom of the barrel scrubs and walk-ons.) I wish I could just say scheduling games like that should never happen. But given that Missouri had to add games on relatively short notice due to playing one less conference game per year in their new conference, they didn't have a lot of choice. Delaware St. got a little more than $10K per minute for being a sparing partner, but I can't say it was enough. Maybe they needed the money that badly?
