Things are getting to a new normal. I live in an area where I can go outside in the morning to work without a mask, exchange "hi" with my nearest neighbors many yards away. As it gets hotter I go back in to spend the day by myself, just like I would without the virus.

I went out yesterday, and with the exception of bread, I shopped for things other than food. I bought some work pants and some batteries for the smoke detectors in the house. I should probably buy another package of batteries and replace them all soon. I've had several give up the ghost since I moved in and had run out of the stock I brought with me from Phoenix. I shouldn't have ignored it for so long, but I got lucky and didn't have to spend a night with a detector beeping its low battery warning all night.

I'm on the short side of average, but I swear I'm taller than most older men I come across. (Only the tall die young?) But here in Tucson the stores don't carry pants the length I wear. In St. Louis and Phoenix it was no problem. Just avoid the boutique places, and I could always get my size. Here, I have to get matching thread somewhere (assuming I don't already have some) and sew them up higher. (Ah, for the good old days when alterations were free at many department stores.) At least I'm not on the tall side of normal, which would mean I could only shop at big-and-tall stores or on-line. So this morning, I get to practice my sewing skills again so I can wear my new work pants tomorrow.
