1. Have you ever had a long distance relationship?

Friendship? Yes.

Romantic? No.

2. When you make a mess are you more likely to clean it up right away, or do you get to it later?

Later.

3. What do you look forward to the most about the colder times of the year?

Sleeping longer (the cat wants me to get up at the crack of dawn) and under the covers.

4. Have you ever hung your clothes out on a clothesline?

Yes, my mother didn't own a dryer for a good bit of my childhood, and sometimes it was my job to hang up the wash in the back yard.

5. What is the dumbest way you’ve injured yourself?

Not really an injury, but wearing new shoes with odd heels, I fell to the ground getting off a bus.

6. If you use libraries, what is the largest overdue fine you've ever had?

I haven't checked out a book since I left Missouri, 20 odd years ago. I haven't had a fine since I was in grade school and don't remember what it amounted to.

7. When was the last time you did something for the first time?

I'll go with wearing a mask into the bank sometime last year. I didn't think I'd ever do that!

8. Which holiday is your favorite to decorate for?

I'm not big on decorating, but I did put up a few lights for Christmas when I lived in Phoenix.

9. What craft project do you want to do next?

I gave up craft projects long ago... like when I wasn't forced to do them any more in grade school. I remember one my mother did particularly, she'd bought some beer to use the pretty bottles to make Christmas Angels. What surprised me was that she asked me to drink the beer. I was certainly of age, but it was a surprise anyway. Not that we were tea-totallers, but we scarcely ever had alcohol in the house and rarely drank any except with holiday dinners sometimes.

10. Do you have any family members that you've never met?

Yes. I spoke on the phone a few years ago with a cousin I hadn't met. I have about 40 cousins on that side of the family, a few like her I've never actually met. She wanted info on the family and got my name from someone. She didn't know who I was at first, but I knew exactly who she was, who her brothers were (I'd seen them when they were little) and I fondly remember her mother and father.

11. When it comes to friends, what's the biggest thing you have in common?

Friendship, duh. I have friends I wouldn't talk politics with, others I wouldn't talk religion with, and most of them I wouldn't try to talk linguistics with! ;o)

12. Did you ever hit anything while learning to drive?

No, but my youngest niece knocked down a telephone pole, trying to pull into their drive. The pole was rotten and other than taking a letter off the front of the pickup truck she was learning in (turning a Ford into an 'ord") there was no damage other than the pole that had to be replaced.

13. Do you prefer bright colors, dark colors, or pastel colors?

Mostly don't like pure reds, and pastels, otherwise I'm broad minded about colors.

14. How long have you lived with the person/people you currently live with?

Like [personal profile] shadowkat I've lived with myself all my life.

15. What was the dumbest thing you ever did as a teenager?

I was whittling a really hard piece of wood, slipped and cut myself pretty badly. My parents never knew, as far as I know, because I was alone at home, bandaged it and kept my mouth shut. (Except for my mother, all of us ran heavy machinery at my father's machine shop and minor injuries were common.)

16. Would you prefer hardwood flooring or carpet in your home?

I have a lot of tile. I prefer that. Though it's more fun to walk around barefoot on the rug.

17. What’s the most you’ll pay for a pair of shoes?

When I was in college and grad school I spent a lot of money on good quality shoes (Bostonians or Florsheims) for walking. The guy in the shoe store in downtown Columbus, Ohio knew me on sight, though I didn't buy shoes that often. These days as long as it has arch support, I go pretty cheap.

18. Which flower is your favorite?

To be different, I'll say saguaro.

19. Which season do you think is the prettiest?

Fall, which we don't really have in Arizona.

20. What is the last thing you cooked?

Pizza.

21. If you could live in a fictional world, which would it be?

The world of my sci-fi novel I wrote long ago. Probably too regimented for most folks these days.

22. Where was the farthest you’ve ever traveled from home?

Moscow

23. Have you ever slammed the door when you were mad?

Yes. Though I can't remember doing that since I was a teen.

24. How old were you when you met your first love?

A few days before my 16th birthday.

25. Were your college years the best years of your life?

They weren't bad, but grad school was better over all, though quite hectic at times.

26. What’s the most relaxing thing you did today?

I dozed off for a few hours after lunch!

27. What do you usually drink with breakfast?

I don't eat breakfast.

28. How many closets does your house have?

4. Sometimes I wish I still had the closet space my Phoenix house had. But I'm glad this is a much smaller house.

29. What year is your car?

2006.

30. What’s the largest animal you’ve ever had as a pet?

A part Great Dane I got at the shelter. His original owner named him Crash and that was the perfect name for him. Big loveable and, at times, oh so clumsy! When I walked onto the porch he could put his front paws on my shoulders and lick me in the face.

1. Same. Long distance friendship. It paid off, because I had a place to stay whenever I visited Europe.

2. I definitely need to clean up right away. It annoys my wife and kid because I sometimes clean up before they're finished....

3. Curling up in a blanket.(Must be an "in the womb" thing.)

4. Nope. We use hangers (or the back of a chair) if stuff isn't quite dry.

Ah, a cjl sighting!! I knew if I scrolled back far enough I'd find one. (correspondence is mainly petz, smartbitches, scans daily, and john scalzi, who post about five - ten posts a day. So lots and lots of scrolling is involved.)

Good to know you're still here.

I'm ALWAYS here. I just don't post or comment as often as I used to. I'm following everyone on my f-list as closely as ever...

Doing better than I am - I miss posts because they get buried in the news feed of the people who post five to twenty posts a day. Petz does twenty a day - most of my flist is just petz. LOL! Smartbitches also does five a day, and Scans Daily does twenty a day.
