1 How important is it to you that people remember, spell and pronounce your name correctly?

Uh, not very. I go by my middle name, so in the days before caller ID on the phone, when the person on the other end asked for me by my first name, I knew instantly they were no one I knew well... I put a card with my name on my door in the building where I lived in grad school, so people could know who I was. One guy who for a few years lived right across the hall (i.e. came out of his own door facing my card every day) arbitrarily decided my name was Steve instead. I sort of tolerated the guy instead of liking or hating him, so I never corrected him. My last name is German but a few weeks into the year, one of my early high school teachers suddenly decided it was French, giving it an odd twist. I didn't correct him either. Why? Because a girl in my classes named Sewell let herself get very upset the first day when every teacher we had called her "Sea well" instead of the proper "Sue uhl." I didn't think it was worth it to me to get so bothered.

2. Are you a hugger?

No, it makes me uncomfortable. An ATPo friend who I met with frequently when I lived in Phoenix is a hugger though. I let her do her thing without complaint.

3 How often do you interrupt others while they are talking?

No, I rarely do unless they drone on and on and I'd like to get a word in edgewise before they change the topic.

9. As you fall asleep, do you prefer to be flat on your back, curled on your side, or on your stomach? What position are you in when you wake up?

When I was in high school I couldn't get to sleep without being on my left side. Now it doesn't matter at all. Waking? However the cat catches me when he wants me awake.

10. What’s your preference: cruise ship, powerboat, sailboat, rowboat, canoe, kayak, or inner tube?

Rowboat. I like powering myself across the water. Canoes are okay, but tippy, and I never tried a kayak.

14. Growing up, for which holidays did your family decorate the house?

Inside - Thanksgiving and Christmas, outside - none.

15. Have you ever served on jury duty? If so, what was the case about? If not, would you like to be on a jury in the future?

Yes. It was a minor drug case. It is something everyone should do once. But because of my age I'd rather not get called again.

16. What's worse: laundry or dishes?

Either by hand or by machine dishes are easier.

17. Do you have a favorite movie soundtrack?

Zorba the Greek

18. If you were offered free cosmetic surgery by the best plastic surgeons in the world, would you take it?

No. Short of fixing actual disfigurement, I think plastic surgery is a pretty nasty exploitative business.

20. What is the difference between knowing a lot of facts about a person and knowing someone personally?

Seriously? Two people with the same bio can be very different in person.

22. What’s one thing you know for sure?

I like dogs and cats. Or is that two things?

23. When was the last time you listened to the sound of your own breathing?

I have no idea, I breath pretty quietly unless I'm wheezing and there are plenty of ambient sounds in my world.

24. Do you ask enough questions or do you settle for what you know?

It depends on how much I care. If I don't care I'll settle. If it's interesting others might be surprised at my list of questions before deciding.

25. An app mysteriously appears on your phone that does something amazing. What does it do?

Unless it mysteriously somehow gives me a phone that has apps, I wouldn't have any idea.

26. How old would you be if you didn’t know how old you are?

Until I moved to Tucson, probably twenty years younger. The move took a lot out of me, so now probably only ten years younger.

27. How have you recently kept yourself in check?

I bought a half dozen donuts for my birthday and didn't eat them all the first day!

28. What’s the closest thing to a castle you’ve been in?

White Castle? No, seriously probably Christiansborg, the formal palace (not where the queen lives) in Copenhagen.

29. What were the circumstances the last time you were hoarse?

When I had COVID.
