We're having a nice steady, gentle rain this morning, always a good thing in the desert where it's mostly long drought between flash floods.
Monday is my usual watering day. Rain means I don't have to water the back till next week. The cacti in the icon are happily getting fatter as I type. Water is expensive here, not outrageous, but expensive. Every watering saved is money in the bank. Best of all, rain means I don't have to feel guilty about not pulling winter weeds today. Feeling guilty about not pulling enough yesterday is a different matter.
It hasn't been cold this winter here, but it's been cooler than the last few winters. I've been itching to get away from the house to do something more interesting than pull weeds, fix dinner and sleep. I've been holding back from making any big purchases for myself for several months, because this is the month I've got a number of big bills coming in (house insurance, property taxes, etc). But now I've got enough squirreled away for some fun. The problem is not to go out and over do it. The new mandolin last week is a symptom of my cabin fever and craziness for buying things to entertain myself. I can excuse the mandolin, I'll play it from now on. But, I'm addicted to computer games. I love role playing games (but not the on line ones, thank goodness). They stay interesting for weeks on end. I have a house full of books to demonstrate my long term passion for bookstores, and you wouldn't believe how many books I've given away donated and just thrown out over the years; many of them unread.
Writing is cheaper entertainment, but you have to be in the mood. I've got a great character to base a novel around. But, she's a priest (no, not of any religion you've heard of). When she acts it's specifically from her moral/religious beliefs. With religious extremism being a sensitive issue many places in the world these days, Im a little loath to get into anything that might be as controversial as her very fine, but essentially inflexible attiudes.
