Too bad about Burger Chef. At least where I lived in MO, they had a pork 'rib' sandwich about nine months before the McRib came out. Presentation was the same and the barbecue sauce was better at Burger Chef. Unfortunately, the overall quality across locations could be hit and miss. The Burger Chef at the edge of the Ohio State campus, made dozens of burgers ahead of the lunch rush and stuck them in plastic bags under a heat lamp. The result was a boiled burger in a soggy bun. Ick.

Sambo's was a pretty decent chain. The timing was bad to have that name, though! Yes, Little Black Sambo was a racist, kids book. But not against Africans or African Americans. Anyone who knows the book, knows it was set in India.

I lived near a Chi-Chi's but never ate there.

Lums was popular in Ohio when I lived there. It was okay for a family style restaurant near campus.

Never heard of D'lites.

I used to eat at Howard Johnson's in Columbia, Mo. It was well away from campus, so we ate there when my parents picked me up for holidays. I really liked their fried clams.

The only Kenny Rogers Roasters I ever saw was about a mile from my house near Phoenix. And it was closed before I moved in. The building sat empty for at least a decade till a Chinese restaurant moved in.

I never saw a White Tower, but we had plenty of White Castles, in Missouri and Ohio.

Huh, I only much knew part of the OSU campus I guess, maybe mostly NE corner, didn't notice the Burger Chef. I liked the seafood enchiladas at Chi Chi's but, like at Arby's, the prices went up enough I stopped much going.

In staying in Metro Manila I was rather surprised to see plenty of Kenny Rogers Roasters still around!

In moving to Eastern Tennessee, I missed White Castle but at least we had Krystal. Though, I was amused that we didn't yet have Tim Hortons but family in Scotland did. It was nice when Tim Hortons came south from Ontario at least as far as Ohio.

Aha, I also remember the Wendy's somewhere in the hospital basement, at least I remember I had to go down a good few floors for it. (-: I think I remember a Subway around NE campus corner but not clearly enough to know if it lasted through my stay. In general, Columbus was great for less-fast restaurants too.
