20. What do you see if you look down at the floor right now?
Rug, the floor protector under my chair and my black socks.
21. It’s International Poetry Day - do you have a favorite limerick or haiku?
There was a young lady of Niger
Who smiled as she rode on a tiger...
I think this was from Ogden Nash... Niger doesn't rhyme with tiger, tigers aren't found in Niger and I'm not 12 any more. So I guess I don't have a favorite limerick any more.
22. Today is Gryffindor Pride Day – a day to celebrate all things Gryffindor! Are you familiar with the Hogwarts houses? Did you have ‘houses’ when you were at school?
Yes, I'm familiar with Hogwarts houses. No, schools in the U.S. don't usually have houses, especially public schools, which in the U.S. are actually public. There was a house for my dorm at the University of Missouri, but it had little to do with the UK idea of school houses.
23. If money wasn’t an obstacle, what one luxury item/thing would you love to treat yourself to?
At the moment I can't think of anything.
24. It’s Veggie Month, and the recommendation is to ‘eat the rainbow’ whenever you can (lots of different colored vegetables), what vegetables do you plan on eating today?
I had carrot and purple cabbage along with lettuce in a salad, and yellow onion, red Tomato, green chilis and pink pinto beans in chili this evening. Could have had black beans in it, too. But decided to save them for another time.
25. When you were at school, what games did you play during break/recess with your friends?
In good weather we always played softball in grade school. I can't really remember what we played after lunch in the gym in bad weather. Sometimes we played dodge ball at recess.
26. Are you allergic to any foods?
Nope.
27. In the UK, the recommendation for minutes spent doing exercise that raises your heart rate is 150 minutes a week. Do you regularly meet that goal?
The guy about my age who did this regularly in my neighborhood, probably on a doctor's suggestion, dropped dead of a heart attack just before last Christmas.
28. In 1944, the Swedish author Astrid Lindgren sprained her ankle and began writing down the stories she had made up for her daughter. These turned into the novel "Pippi Longstocking". Have you read it?
No, though I've seen pictures of the character. Seemed to overdo the hairspray on her pig tails.
29. It’s International Mermaid Day – have you seen any films featuring mermaids?
I'm sure I did, but it was long ago, and I have no desire to remember the movie or its title.
30. It’s the International Day of Zero Waste – have you noticed less plastic packaging when you’ve bought things recently? When did you last buy something with Polystyrene/Styrofoam packaging?
I bought the computer I'm working on a few months ago. It was packed in styrofoam inside a cardboard box. I'll keep the styrofoam in case I have to move the computer somewhere.
