I spent the morning running around getting the last of my Christmas gifts. I've felt a little off for several days, not sick, not a cold, just off. I figured I'd want to crawl into bed when I got home today. But now that the cards are mailed and the presents are all in the house, at least, I don't feel quite so crummy. Even found the energy to do a little decorating, though I may be the last person in this part of the state to get holiday lights up.

Do you get minor distress over what to get people? I went out early looking for some of those gifts. You know. The ones that can't be too crappy, but you don't want to look too expensive, either. The ones for people you wish really would not give you a present every year?

At any rate I thought I had all of those people taken care of as of yesterday when I started thinking about the gifts I'd bought. I thought, 'Well, so-and-so might not want that at all. Why don't I give one of whatchamahdinger's gifts to her. Then I can give whos-is whatchamahdinger's 2nd little gift, which he'd like better than the more expensive one I had for him in the first place. Whatchamahdinger wouldn't want so-and-so's original gift in a million years, so I'll add that to who-knows' little gift..." Many shifts later, I'm keeping a few things cause no one else would really want them and whatcahamadinger still doesn't have a present. So my shopping trip this morning was longer than planned, but I'm relieved it's over for another year. Nothing more to send, either, fortunately.

Now if I can get up the energy to start wrapping!

Sounds like you're growing a lovely little garden of white elephants in some dark closet. But surely eventually some organization will have a garage sale and you'll be able to get rid of them.

I learned years ago that if I have an iffy gift to get, to buy stuff I could use, just in case it takes me a couple tries to figure it out. I'd rather give it all away this time of year and almost always do one way or the other, but if I'm stuck with something, it gets used. I try not to buy 'bad' gifts, but as often as once a year I get something for someone, that I realize before Christmas is more appropriate for someone else.

It's stuff I buy for myself during the year that accumulates in that dark closet that needs a garage sale now and then. ;o)

You're so good to have all your shopping done already, CW. I'm seriously impressed! I haven't got anything for my dad or brother yet. Totally know what you mean about minor distress over those "must get them something" gifts. Just realised I should probably at least get my co-workers each a card!

Whatchamahdinger, hee!
