A few lesser items from the news here.

The mayor of my suburb publicly scolded one of the City Councilors for nominating himself for vice-mayor for the fifth time. Quote- "You repeatedly bring this up to embarrass the City Council." For the fifth time the Councilor in question was defeated, garnering only his own vote. No, he's not my City Councilor.

Across town in Fountain Hills a billboard has gone up at a new development touting "luxury villas starting from the low two millions." Such a deal... It is part of a resort development in one of the wealthiest of suburbs. But, it is odd enough that the sign has become something of a tourist attraction with people stopping to take pictures... I don't know if the fine print reads OSWGCNA*

One of the lesser pitchers for our D'backs baseball team, Casey Daigle just became a father for the first time. The mother is actually a bit more famous. Jenny Finch is a world class softball player, having won world championships and an Olympic gold medal. She also appeared in the pregame show for the national baseball broadcasts on the FOX Network, Saturdays last year. She not only interviewed the top players but then proceeded to challenge them to bat against her. Granted she was pitching from the softball distance from the plate, but she was throwing a big softball, did not have the benefit of a pitching mound and still made almost every last one of them look bad. They have unfortunately named the poor kid Ace Daigle (no pressure there!). Hopefully if he grows up to be a pitcher, he'll learn to pitch like his mother!

Good for them. Jenny Finch is awesome, I must say. I'm not surprise people couldn't hit her. Hitting fast-pitch softball is everybit as hard as baseball - or at least it was just as hard for me to hit HS level fastpitch as HS level baseball, and I'm willing to extrapolate.

I suspect that if you gave a Major League player weeks to practice hitting it, they'd be able to adjust and hit okay. But you can't just walk up and hit off someone like that.
