Well, it's 06/06/06 which is demonic if you are gullible, equate the Revelations' "number of the beast" with the date and leave out a lot of zeroes. I don't remember exactly, but, my high school graduation was close to 06/06/66. Our mayor didn't show up much less turn into a giant snake. Our principal was about as popular as Mr. Snyder and about as grumpy. But, I think he was a hair smarter. Eep, 40 years since I graduated from high school; almost 40 years since I started to college. If this doesn't slow down I'm going to be old one of these days.
;o)

I'm a little surprised how everyone has forgotten about the discovery of a very early document (last year, I think), predating any other copy of Revelations, that had 616 as the number. We should have been in trouble last week!

We should have been in trouble last week!
Or those from England, last January.

I missed hearing about that document. I miss all the good stuff.

Brian Lehrer of WNYC (NY public radio station) had a segment on this topic (http://www.wnyc.org/shows/bl/episodes/2006/06/06) this morning:

"The Rapture
James Tabor, professor and chair of the Department of Religious Studies at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and author, The Jesus Dynasty (Simon & Schuster, 2006)
- on apocalyptic prophecy and the significance of 666"

They got several calls & emails bringing up the 616 discovery. 1 caller got through, & Tabor pretty much said, "Yep." Oh, & that 616 was closer to the numerical value of Nero's name in Aramaic/Hebrew characters.

Of course, the other thing is that Aramaic & Hebrew numbering systems didn't use decimal digits, and "six hundred sixty-six" wasn't six sixes in a row & has nothing to do w/the sixth day of the sixth month of the 2,006th year of the, ahem, Common Era. I don't think we need to worry about being in trouble, aside from the kind we bring on ourselves...

...uh-oh.
