Yes, we actually saw the lake!
Emerald Bay from the trail to Vikingsholm. The bay is formed by two mountainous fingers of rock and cliff that stick out into the lake.

Emerald Bay from the shore in front of the 'castle.' The bay is one of the prettiest parts of the lake. The water is clear green compared to the blue of the rest of the lake. It's also rough terrain to get into.

Lake Tahoe from Tallac. Up the road from Emerald Bay are Eagle Falls (which I did not get a picture of though they are impressive) and Tallac an old resort area from the late 1800's. The structures were torn down in the early 1900s by the owners who began to worry about development in the lake area destroying its beauty. Unlike the Vikingsholm trail, at Tallac it's an easy walk to the water's edge from the road. Most of the lake shore views everywhere at Tahoe look like this one, deep blue water and mountains surrounding the lake. Not far from this spot the water is 1800 feet (over 500 meters) deep close to the shore.

Tahoe Queen. I think this is not the boat our friends went on. That boat was similar but larger. From V-3 anom and I saw both boats cruise off into the hail storm.
