Is concentration the key to success?

I do wonder how people can concentrate on one thing long enough to do truly great work. Not that I'm actually capable of great work. But, I still like to delude myself into thinking I could. I can focus well enough for a couple of weeks. But after that, my mind tends to go all over the place.

I do want to finish up my current writing project, but so many things draw my attention away. This morning on the music site I frequent someone asked if we thought a particular lute-like instrument would work for traditional Irish-style music. Everyone who replied seemed to think so. I suggested a couple instruments that might go well with it. As I was replying, a tune for that combination of instruments popped into my head. So I spent some of this morning approximating that music and instrument combination with my computer music software. It's coming along well enough, that I'm thinking of adding it to my small collection of incidental music to my novel, as the music for the big battle scene! ;o)

I'm one of those people who tends to dabble...I get really enthusiastic about a project and work on it like crazy, then lose interest. I have a lot of works in progress...most of which never get finished.
I guess I just have too many things that interest me to choose one to concentrate on..
