Wearing my 'I voted today'sticker, I went to the grocery store. A lady passing by me does indeed ask, "Oh, is today *election* day?" in surprise.

What I should have answered was

a) Not in Bizzaro where you come from.
B) No, I just haven't washed my shirt since the last election.
C) What have you been smoking?
D) Aren't you a little old to watch MTV *all* the time?
E) Elections are the opiate of the masses.
F) I vote for all the cute ones.
G) Yes, FDR is running again.
H) (write in candidate)

Sheesh. My attitude has usually been that I don't need a sticker or to go around showing I voted, but if awareness is so low, maybe it's worth wearing one to raise it. I don't know if they're giving out stickers at my polling place, but if they do, I think I'll take one after all!

Is it that the woman watches all MTV (they do still have Rock the Vote, right?) or that she has no TV or radio & always looks down at the sidewalk so she doesn't see any of the candidates' posters? OK, my write-in candidate is "I want to move where you live. It must be so peaceful, without all those annoying campaign ads!"

I guess she doesn't get campaign mailings, either. I'm seriously considering basing one of my votes on who sent me the least campaign literature!
