The Fingers of Doom... er Bloom!

My Senna bushes are just starting to bloom so I was a little surprised to see this cactus on the patio blooming already. There are many different types of mammillaria and it's hard to tell one from another. This particular kind has yellow flowers. I have another mammilaria that grows exactly the same way that you'd swear was the same thing. But the flowers are deep red and a different shape. The sun wasn't very good this morning, so it's hard to see the blooms. But the buds show up nicely here.


This is a picture of the same clump last year to show what the flowers look like. The color of the plant shows up better in the picture above.
