My sister called me very early this morning before I was dressed. One of *her* cactus had bloomed and she wanted me to come see it. I knew which one, so I threw on some clothes and drove over without shaving.

Her cactus is a night bloomer so to see the full flower in full morning light is special. The largest of the three barrel cacti to the left is about the size of a cantaloupe. And you can see the full size bricks.
Echinopsis and Ferocactus

The plant is a hybrid of Echinopsis bred for its flowers. The stock plants from which it came are from South America. (The loop of black is part of the watering system for the tree behind.)
Echinopsis Flower

This is the angle you can see how special the flower is. The flower stock and flower are monstrous compared to the size of the plant.

Yes. This kind of Echinopsis have a habit of growing every which way, and growing out of their pots in every direction. The flower stocks, too, go shooting off in any old direction
