I got weak and went back to see a matinee of Serenity at another theater, this morning.

It would appear that individual theaters (and chains) still have the right to make cuts wherever they please to fit their running schedules. Add this to the fact that the studio may slightly change the picture in the later prints they send out...


I made a point of telling Darby yesterday about the long sequence I saw Saturday of River fighting the Reavers in which it clearly was not always Summer Glau on screen. Virtually all of that battle was gone in the version I saw today! All that was left was a single long shot with Summer herself doing a pass through the Reavers.

As far as the story is concerned nothing was missing. If I hadn't been watching for it specifically I might not have noticed much difference, but it is disturbing that what one theater calls a certain movie may not be exactly the same as what you see at another.

I know for a fact I saw things in the first showing of Star Wars (the original) on the first day of its run, that I have not seen anywhere again.
